“How about this one? Journey into the void ends loneliness”

Published: July 23, 2026Duration: 1:12:46
Loneliness may be the most misnamed experience in modern intimacy. We call it the absence of another person because that explanation keeps us from examining the more dangerous possibility: we may be suffering from the absence of ourselves. The void appears when the noise stops. No text. No lover. No crisis. No audience. No one to rescue, impress, pursue, blame, or perform for. In that silence, the self we abandoned to secure attachment begins knocking from inside the walls. Ross Rosenberg’s concept of pathological loneliness sharpens the wound. Within his model, the agony of separation can grow from childhood attachment trauma, core shame, and the learned belief that one’s unaccompanied self remains unbearable. The relationship then becomes more than connection. It becomes anesthesia. Its ending feels less like heartbreak and more like withdrawal. That distinction changes everything. Do you miss the person, or the relief they provided from meeting yourself? Did the relationship nourish you, or merely keep your deepest shame sedated? If mistreatment feels safer than solitude, love may no longer be guiding the bond. Terror may be selecting the partner. The journey into the void does not ask human beings to stop needing one another. That would violate both psychology and reality. It asks whether connection can remain healthy when another person must carry the entire weight of your identity, regulation, worth, and reason to exist. Perhaps loneliness survives because we keep treating other people as exits from an interior room we refuse to enter. The void may not be empty. It may contain grief, rage, unmet need, unlived truth, and the self exiled whenever love required performance. What if entering that room ends loneliness? What if the person you feared being left alone with becomes the one person you finally refuse to abandon for anyone ever again?
